VORWERK "elemento"
A carpet collection like a piece of untouched nature:
passionate, lovely, fascinating and precious.
Hamlin, January 2008 - The desert is alive. Each day the most amazing formations and fascinating creations are brought forth by its unbridled creative energy. With the newest Vorwerk collection of area rugs, Vorwerk Teppichwerke from Hamlin, Germany has given natural material a new design by creating "elemento", the luxurious virgin wool collection containing three dazzling carpets that give rooms a new feeling.
"sahara", "tundra" and "hammada" are their names: handmade products of the highest quality displaying the accustomed Vorwerk workmanship, yet with an astounding look that sets them apart in the Vorwerk selection. The strikingly self-confident and highly expressive design emerges through the use of thick threads made of New Zealand virgin wool painstakingly felted to a size of up to 12 millimetres, and impressive pile heights up to 4.5 centimetres high. The two-toned "hammada" sets a particular highlight in the collection. Its thick, wick-like thread displays a black core in the centre. The worlds of colours have been kept pointedly natural in the collection. They range from white and light-coloured sandy shades to a variety of grey and earthy tones and on to more vivid hues such as coral red and a purple lilac. Ina Struve, the head of Vorwerk Design, has created a total of 24 colours for the new Vorwerk collection.
"We view the new 'elemento' as a statement for self-assured, individual and style-creating interior design in which the floor contributes decisively to the feeling of a room," says Johannes Schulte, CEO at Vorwerk Teppichwerke. "The collection is oriented towards people who consciously use accents when designing and appreciate the value and emotionality of painstakingly manufactured products."
Each of the three area rugs "sahara", "tundra" and "hammada" is meticulously handcrafted individually in the size desired by the customer. Whether as a velours or a loop weave, all of them can be combined outstandingly with other floorings, for example stone, wood or a wall-to-wall carpet, though there is no doubt about the "elemento" that marks the room and gives it a distinctive atmosphere.
Walking on one of the area rugs or holding a piece of one in the hand is an impressive experience. No doubt about that. The soft appearance presented by pure virgin wool is equally matched by the voluminous fullness to the touch. Each square metre of carpet weighs up to 14 kilogrammes (!). The lavishly lined backing is noteworthy and a special sign of quality.
The Vorwerk "elemento" collection shall be available starting in the middle of 2008 from a select group of dealers. An emphasis is going to be placed on those retail sales partners who also carry the Vorwerk luxury collection "Ulf Moritz by Vorwerk".
These area rug creations by Vorwerk will be presented for the first time from the 9th to the 12th of January, 2008 at the international "Heimtextil" trade fair in Frankfurt.
