Recycling with texback® and ecoback®.
The new generation of textile floor coverings: texback®/ecoback®)
This is a new generation of fully recyclable textile floor coverings. The system enables us to reuse unavoidable textile production waste by feeding the residual materials back into the production process. The environmental impact is lessened, not only by a reduction in the amount of waste to be disposed of, but also by improvements in outgoing air quality.
The carpet backing machine is our only facility which requires official approval in relation to the level of harmful emissions. Changes made to products and procedures have enabled us to drastically reduce air emissions from this facility. Measurements taken this year by the German Carpet Research Institute confirm that we are well below the emission levels permitted under the German clean air guidelines. This is, however, achieved without the need for the waste air clearance plants used by Vorwerk in the past. We have also greatly reduced waste levels, since any production waste created here is treated in our recycling plant and fed back into the production process.
By discontinuing the manufacture of foam backing, and thereby doing away with the need for the vulcanisation process which is essential for its production, we have reduced the volume of pollutants by more than 90 %. Since in the production of foam backing a large proportion of the pollutants had to be condensed out, making them more expensive to dispose of than so-called hazardous waste, this new process represents an important step towards the reduction of these toxic wastes.
